2012 Mass STEM Summit to be held October 18th at Gillette Stadium

Posted on: 01/11/12

The 9th annual Massachusetts STEM Summit will to take place on October 18, 2012* at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, a site large enough to accommodate the high number of expected attendees. Hosted by the Massachusetts Governor’s STEM Advisory Council, the Massachusetts Business Roundtable and the UMass Donahue Institute, the Summit brings together leaders in business, government and education to discuss programs that promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education from early childhood through adulthood and progress on implementation of the Statewide STEM Plan. The STEM mission is tied to the economic development goals of the Commonwealth, preparing the state’s residents to fill the highly skilled jobs needed to propel an innovative economy.

Massachusetts is frequently cited as a leader in STEM education. In March of 2011, the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, along with Innovate+Educate, a national non-profit connecting industry and education with states to advance STEM education, recognized the state as the national model for STEM initiatives.  Over 700 attended last year’s Summit, with another 100 placed on a waiting list, prompting the move to a larger venue.  An official Planning Committee will convene in January 2012.

*Please note the change of date from Tuesday, October 16 to Thursday, October 18.
