Demand for ESL classes outpaces programs in Worcester

Demand for English as a Second Language (ESL) courses is outstripping the number of classroom slots, reports the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

A 2015 study on the foreign-born population of Worcester commisioned by the Seven Hills Foundation and authored by the UMass Darmouth Public Policy Center and co-authored by the Institute's Applied Research and Program Evaluation group, documented low English proficiency amongst this subset of the local population. View the report. 

Organizations in the Worcester area that provide ESL classes have seen an increase in demand in the last several years but are unsure if that trend will continue based on federal immigration poilcy, reports the Telegram & Gazette.
