Republican: Iraqi students at UMass raise money for Amherst Senior Center and share culture at fund-raiser
The Republican featured a story about a fundraising event put together by students participating in the UMass Donahue Institute’s Iraqi Young Leaders Program. Run by UMDI’s Civic Initiative and the US. Embassy in Bagdad, the program brings 25 Iraqi students to the UMass Amherst campus for six weeks of courses and cultural excursions centered on civic life and public policy, with a community service component that introduces them to community organizing and fundraising.
The event was held at the Amherst Pub and gave the students an opportunity to discuss their backgrounds and their impressions of America. All proceeds were donated to the Amherst Senior Center.
