Study findings presented at Boston Private Industry Council Spring Meeting

Steven Ellis, Director of the UMass Donahue Institute’s Applied Research and Program Evaluation unit, presented findings of a study looking at the Boston Public Schools’ online Credit and Skills Recovery Program (CSRP) at the Boston Private Industry Council’s (BPIC) Spring Council Meeting.

CSRP is an online, lab and teacher supported credit recovery program serving Boston Public School (BPS) high school seniors who lack sufficient credit to otherwise graduate on time. The program is implemented by the BPS Office of Student Support in partnership with BPIC.

BPS Office of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment data showed that the program raised the overall BPS 2010-2011 graduation rate by six percentage points. Building upon those findings, the UMDI study further confirmed the rigor of course offerings, the critical role of teacher and case management support, and the program’s effectiveness in serving students designated by the BPS Early Warning Indicator system as “high risk.”

The presentation was one in a series focusing on BPIC’s collaborations with BPS. It was part of the meeting’s larger agenda, which focused on supporting BPS student credit recovery, high school graduation, and college and career success.
