Bill Proulx receives GISP certification

Senior Research Analyst Bill Proulx was recently awarded certification as a Geographic Information Systems Professional through the GIS Certification Institute. GISCI offers a positive method of developing value for professionals and employers in the GIS profession. Certification is based on a lengthy application process that looks at professional experience, education and contributions to one’s community.

A skilled researcher with over 14 years of experience, Bill’s work with geographic information systems allows data to be collected, analyzed, and visually presented in clear and compelling ways. He has contributed maps and spatial analysis to a report for the UMass President's office, outlining the implementation of the UMass satellite campus in Springfield, and more recently, he has applied his skills to the creation of interactive maps for annual Census releases and to the development of a website illustrating population shifts in Massachusetts.

His interest in geospatial analysis can be traced back to his eighth grade geography class. He eventually majored in geography and then went on to work at several GIS companies, which lead to an interest in planning and policy.

In addition to his professional work with the Donahue Institute, Bill has volunteered his services and skills to several local municipalities and planning agencies including the towns of Amherst, Westfield, Northampton, and the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission. He also works with faculty and students from a variety of fields, consulting and providing maps and spatial analysis.
